ITHACA - On Saturday, all local winter track teams were put together in one session for the Quinney Invitational held at Ithaca College. The Corning boys and girls teams both took first place respectively.
For the boys, Norwich took fourth place with 16 points while Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton/Harpursville came in 17th place with four points scored. The BGAH girls tied for ninth place with Johnson City with 22 points while UV finished 13th and Oxford came in 16th place. Several athletes also achieved personal best times at this meet.
Leading the way for the Norwich male runners was Richard Fuller who ran a personal-best time of 37.46 seconds for third place in the 300 meter dash. Aside from Fuller, Gabe Decker came in eighth in the same event as BGAH’s Julian Pruskowski came in 14th with his best time of 39.44 seconds. Fuller also tied for ninth place in the 55 meter dash with a best time of 6.94 seconds.
Teammate Caden Sutton achieved a seventh place finish in the 1000 meter run, which he completed in 2:50.97. BGAH’s Brock Porter came in 14th in the same event while Maddie Ingham took fifth for the girls 1000 meter run.
In the 600 meter run, Norwich’s Zander Sutton finished ninth with his personal best time of 1:33.12 while Gage Titsworth achieved his best of 1:36.17 for 14th place.
For the female runners, the BGAH Bears were led by Ethne Degan who ran for a fifth place finish in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:00.78 as teammate Vanessa Brazee came in 10th. Degan’s 4:55.17 in the 1500 meter run was good enough for third place along with a NY Top 50 placement. Norwich’s Annie Boland came in 12th place with her best time of 5:51.59.
The Bears also earned fifth place in the girls 4 x 800 relay with a team of Chandler Benjamin, Vanessa Brazee, Lainelle Brazee, and Degan.
The Unadilla Valley Storm girls found success in the 4 x 200 meter relay with Molly Gorrell, Jaiden Schrag, Isabella Potter, and Kalie Naughton coming in second place with a time of 1:53.19. Binghamton came in first with a slightly better time of 1:52.10.
UV’s Gracie Gorrell continues to achieve great timing in the 300 meter dash, where she picked up another personal best of 42.46 seconds to earn the victory. This timing also places it in the NY Top 50. Oxford’s Kayla Figary came in 14th place with her best time of 47.21 seconds.
Moving on to the fielding events, where Norwich’s Lucas Craddock keeps excelling at the jumps.
Craddock achieved first in the triple jump with a jump of 43 feet, 11 inches, which wasn’t a new best, but it made the NY top 10’s list. His jump of 5-11 in the high jump was tied for first place while he picked up a third place finish in the long jump (19-9.50). BGAH’s Julian Pruskowski took fourth in the triple jump (40-4.75) while Collin Dicks came in seventh for both the long jump (18-7.50) and the triple jump (38-1.75).
For the girls, UV’s Jaiden Schrag and Gracie Gorrell placed just below the top 10 in their performances for the long jump event. Schrag came in 11th with a jump of 15 feet, three inches while Gorrell earned 13th place (14-11.75). Oxford’s Hailey Fleury finished 16th with a jump of 14 feet, 8 ¼ inches.
Lastly in the weight throw events, BGAH’s Riley Lindsay had her best throw with a distance of 33 feet, five inches, coming in third place while Norwich’s Lara Tefft sinked into the 11th spot, but accomplished a best mark of 28-0.75. Gabe Blenis led the locals with a third place finish with a throw of 47 feet, five inches for Norwich.
All track teams are expected to compete at the Section IV Classic being held at Cornell University on Saturday, January 28.
